Garmin Forerunner 310XT Review

With a battery life of 20 hours, the Garmin Forerunner 310XT–covered in this review–will outlast, and out-record, you every time you train.

Garmin 310XT Main Features

The colors of the Garmin Forerunner 310XT, shades of gray and bright orange, may not be the most fashionable to some, but what the Forerunner lacks in fashion, it makes up in features.

The Garmin Forerunner 310XT transfers easily from a wrist-watch, recording and displaying your speed and distance during a run, or your time during a swim, to a mini dashboard on your bike handlebars, recording and showing the speed and distance of your current ride.

The multi-sport functions of the Forerunner 310XT work seamlessly together at the push of a button.

The Forerunner 310XT is waterproof–sweat and rain proof as well–up to 50 meters, so you can wear it while you do a full swim, bike, and run training session. The display is easy to read in most light conditions, though can be difficult to see in low light or direct sunlight.

The battery life of one charge lasts for 20 hours, while the lithium-ion battery can hold over 1,000 charges before needing to be replaced. If you ever need a replacement battery, contact Garmin directly.

Store And Transfer Workout Data

The GPS included in the Forerunner tracks how many miles you bike or run and your pace. Currently, GPS doesn’t work well in water as GPS signals cannot penetrate water, but the Forerunner can still be used to track lap times.

The GPS system in the Garmin Forerunner 310XT tracks your course as you bike and run. Sync up the data with your computer after a workout to see how many miles you biked and ran and at what speeds. This is really a sophisticated system in a wristwatch.

What Else?

When you buy a Forerunner, you’ll get six accompanying items: A premium heart rate monitor, a USB ANT stick, a charging clip, an owner’s manual on disk, and a quick reference guide.

The premium heart rate monitor is included which, when properly attached, will track and record heart rates as you train. Knowing heart rates is invaluable, as an athlete can analyze when their heart rates were high and low to know when to push themselves even harder.

Easily Record Your Workout Data

A USB ANT stick is also provided so you can transfer all recorded stats, wirelessly, from the Garmin to a laptop or desktop computer. After a rigorous training session, revisit your workout visually by seeing distance, pace, and heart rate laid out in Garmin’s Training Center software.

See where you would like to improve, and see where you slacked off, to push yourself. Once you know what you want to work on during your next training session, plan tomorrow’s workout in advance.

A charging clip is included to recharge your Garmin Forerunner 310XT to full capacity before you train. For those wanting to know everything possible about the Forerunner 310XT, an owner’s manual is provided on disk.

When you load the disk into your computer for the first time, copy the owner’s manual to your hard drive for quick access. A small reference guide is also included for when you have a quick query.

The Garmin Forerunner 310XT is a great addition to any triathlete’s training arsenal. You can pick one up here.
